Purpose of the RSG

· Develop strategies specific to their region to improve education for gifted and talented students:
· Become familiar with the GATE website and associated smart tools, and online community
· Align approaches to GATE in schools with Ka Hikitia, the Pasifika Education Plan, NCEA, National Standards and areas of government priority
· Grow coherence and coordination of approaches between schools and:
o Professional Learning and Development providers , Ministry regional education and performance groups (EPGs), GAT stakeholder providers , Local industry and businesses
· Explore ways of disseminating and sustaining best practice within the region, including regional symposia and online communities
· Identify and support potential schools which may take a regional cluster leadership role
· Contribute to and attend the National GATE hui

Building whole school capability in a sustainable way that allows schools to self-manage their requirements under National Administrations Guideline 1 (iii) c
Goal
A. To build on established networks, both online and face to face:
i. Establish a cluster of school with a lead Mentor School for GATE
ii. Establish a database where teachers can provide a list of activities and workshops that they have used- with a rating system
iii. Establish a database of teachers responsible for GATE in schools in any region with contact details
iv. Establish a resource bank of experts and resources to support GAT students in specific learning areas
v. Support for PD courses offered locally eg Teachers helping Teachers run through Fendalton School
B. To continue to offer professional development for the classroom teacher to support them in planning to meet their individual needs.




Support the implementation of National Standards and gathering of baseline data that allows for the longitudinal tracking of students’ achievement

C. To build on support for local organisations eg Christchurch Association for Gifted Education (CAGE), including time and funding
i. to extend what they offer:
· sector-specific meetings
· speakers
· workshops
· mentors
ii. to extend networks and support for early childhood and primary
iii. to support GiftEDnz in a similar way so that both organisations can support local teachers more and publicise professional development courses locally
iv. to support existing clusters like Sirius and develop more networking between teachers
v. to use the Gifted website as a forum for disseminating information about local networks
D. to develop a set of mutually agreed procedures to foster a smooth transition for GAT students from primary to intermediate
